My Town Tutors created a twitter account @MyTownTutorsNW on June 4th, 2013 and it was identified as the Worst Twitter Account in the World. This was very concerning to My Town Tutors since it reflected poorly on our company. Being the “worst” is not acceptable when our goal is to be the #1 tutoring resource for parents and teachers in the US.
Our motto is “Teachers are great tutors!”
To help provide guidance for our regional directors, we have created a set of guidelines for twitter use. It can be found on our “Twitter 101” tab. We would recommend that you read these posts before starting to use twitter.
Remember you can edit your account at anytime, so you do not need to wait to register. It does not have to be perfect, just visit @MyTownTutorsNW to see what a horrible twitter account looks like.
Steps to creating a twitter account.
1. Visit the Twitter website.
2. Enter your full name, email address, and password.
3. Click the “Sign up for Twitter” button. You will be entered into the twitter website.

4. Check your information.
(information / possible twitter comment)

Full name Name looks great.

5. Carefully Select a Twitter Name – All our accounts promote My Town Tutors, so we make sure we include the name in our account. Others may want to include their personal name. This adds more credibility to your account. (Our current accounts are @mytowntutors, @mytowntutorsMA, @mytowntutorsMI, @mytowntutorsFL, @mytowntutorsNW, @mytowntutorsNE)
6. Click “Create my Account” Button.
7. Follow the Lesson from Tweet Teacher. You will be asked to follow:

  • Celebrity promoted accounts – You will be asked to select 5. We selected the first 5 for @MyTownTutorsNW, knowing that we would “unfollow” the accounts very shortly. After you follow 5, click the “next” button.
  • Interests – You will be prompted to follow another 5. This time you can choose a category such as music, sports, entertainment, NBA, NHL, etc. Select 5 more accounts. After you follow 5, click the “next” button.
  • Find People You Know – Here you can search for people you know. There also is an option to skip this one. We elected to skip this option.

8. Add Character: Upload a Photo My Town Tutors is a brand, so we want to be consistent with our images. Each account has the same image (except for @MyTownTutorsNW) so followers are able to visually identify our brand. The profile image is important. We prefer a conservative approach. Questions to ask:

  • Would you parents / grandparents approve?
  • Would your children approve?
  • Would you boss or employees be offended?

You can skip this option. @MyTownTutorsNW did because we had a goal to be the Worst Twitter Account in the WORLD! We recommend you add an image.
9. Add Character: Bio – Please revisit our Twitter 101 page to review previous blogs. Our goal is to let parents, teachers, and other educators know what we are all about. The great thing about the profile is that it can be edited at anytime. For example as we were writing this post, we added the bold phrase “FREE to search” to let parents know that they can visit and view our site for no fee.
Here is our complete profile:

Teachers are GREAT tutors! We connect parents with local teachers who tutor. Teachers keep 100% of fees. FREE to search.http://www.mytowntutors.com/blog/ Boston, Massachusetts and USA ยท mytowntutors.com

You can skip this option. @MyTownTutorsNW did because we had a goal to be the Worst Twitter Account in the WORLD! We recommend you add an image.
10. Confirm Your Email.
If you found this useful, please share. It will be added to our Twitter 101 page, where we will be sharing additional information in future posts.
