Teachers who tutor.
Tutors who teach.
That’s the mission of a new company, that’s run by Hanover teachers and just getting their feet wet on the South Shore.
Mark Malloy, a history teacher at Hanover High School, and Matthew Plummer, a former colleague of Malloy’s, got the idea to start up their company, My Town Tutors, as a means to connect students in need of tutoring with experienced teachers who live and work in their communities. The teachers may not work at the students’ schools, but perhaps live in the community and teach outside of it. With the help of their Alex Cook, a former student of theirs and an online guru, Malloy and Plummer launched their My Town Tutors website in the spring. This fall, they’re hitting the ground running with more than 100 teachers on board from towns across the state.
“Teachers are the best tutors,” Malloy said. “They know how to relate to kids, how to break it down for them and they also know how to stay current with the curriculum. And so with My Town Tutors, [teachers] are doing what they love, while making a little extra money.”
