With so many websites out there, it can be hard to keep readers’ attention. Good content writing is key to keeping readers engaged and increasing traffic flow on your website.

There are many benefits to having a content marketing program. It’s important to make sure the content you produce is top quality.

No matter what type of content you’re writing, there are a few basic ingredients to a good piece of writing.

 1. High-Quality Content

It goes without saying, but good content writing must have good and accurate content. If someone is looking at your website, they are interested in the subject, so the chances are high that they already know a bit about the topic.

If your content is technical in nature, it’s especially important that your content is of superior quality.

However, you don’t need to be an expert in the subject you’re writing on to be able to write something of good quality on a more advanced subject. You’ll just need to put in a bit of work.

2. In-Depth Research

Research is key to good content writing, and it’s important that you are writing accurate information. To do this, you’ll need to double-check your information with credible sources. You shouldn’t believe everything you read on the internet.

If you need academic research or scientific data to back up what you’re writing, use search engines such as Google Scholar or look on government databases for information on just about any subject.

Good research goes beyond just knowing your subject. After all, if you can find it on the internet, so can your readers.

You want to assemble all the information a reader would want to know about a particular subject. To do this, search for similar content around the web and see how other people are writing and what readers are looking for.

When you type something in a search bar, most search engines will allow you to see how other people searched for the same subject. You can use this information to anticipate what readers want to know and include it in your article. That way readers won’t have to search somewhere else.

3. Catchy Introduction

Internet readers want to get straight to the point, and they don’t have very long attention spans. That’s why you need a good introduction to grab their attention and keep them reading.

If you don’t grab a reader in the first few sentences, they’re going to click back to another website, which you want to avoid.

Having a good 2-3 sentence introduction is also good because it could be featured on the search engine snippet. If you type a question into a search engine like Google, you’ll see a snippet come up with the first few lines of an article that answers the question.

Good snippets will often answer the question quickly but promise more information. For instance, let’s say you ask Google, “Should I eat ham or turkey?”

In the first few sentences, a good snippet would say which one you should eat and then something like, “and let’s look at the reasons why.”

Readers don’t want to scroll all the way down the page for an answer, but once you’ve caught their attention, they’ll want some confirmation of your answer.

4. Easy Readability

Once you’ve captured a reader’s attention, you want to keep them engaged while making it easy for them to stay engaged. You shouldn’t assume your readers are complete idiots, but you can’t assume they all have a Ph.D. in whatever you’re writing about.

Try not to use overly technical language or complicated jargon. Don’t have extremely long sentences.

Most importantly, don’t have long paragraphs.

The majority of internet traffic is mobile, meaning people are looking at websites on their phones as opposed to their computers. This means their screens are significantly smaller. It’s more difficult to read long paragraphs or big chunks of texts on a small screen.

When readers are scrolling down the page, it’s easier to read text that is broken up with lots of space.

Lists and well-outlined articles also help make things easier for the reader.

5. Keywords

Keywords are important since they optimize your search traffic potential. By including as many keywords as possible, you can optimize your chances of clicks.

However, you don’t want to overload your reader with keywords. You don’t need to mention each word in every paragraph or even every section. Instead, try scattering them throughout the article.

Conclusion

Like you need a good introduction, a satisfying conclusion is also important. You don’t want readers feeling like you haven’t answered the question, but you don’t want to make the article so long that they begin to get bored. Knowing when to stop is important.

And on that note, thanks for reading, and good luck writing!
