ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain is an innovative science center and lake aquarium dedicated to inspiring a lifelong love of learning for all ages. It is located Burlington Vermont.

While we love all our seasons here (including the fifth, mud season…), there’s no denying that summer brings to the Burlington Waterfront an incredible energy that we welcome with open arms.

Just recently staffers stepped into the lake themselves, releasing 19 neonate (baby) Eastern Spiny Softshell Turtles as part of an ongoing partnership program with the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife. It serves a sort of summer kickoff each year.

This summer has already been hopping, thanks to the year’s newest permanent ECHO addition, Champ Lane, and a guest visiting us for the summer, Run! Jump! Fly! Adventures in Action TM.

Things at ECHO will be a little bit different this time around, as we engage guests in special summer programming EVERY SINGLE DAY! Guests might create gargantuan bubbles. They might leave (voluntarily) covered in slime. They might be tasked with using their STEM know-how to save turtles in Lake Champlain, or to levitate magnets in order to help sailboats reach their destinations. No matter what is going on it will be fun, it will be exciting, and it will be a different experience each time you visit.

Every Wednesday visitors are invited to join ECHO’s educators to connect the science and art worlds together in a fun and exciting way! All ages and backgrounds are welcome to this program on the outside terrace (weather permitting, of course). How do these topics tie together? In an engaging and beautiful way – think bubbles, prisms, watercolors, and more, leaving you with take-home creations and cherished memories. Participate in Science Loves Art Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2 p.m.

We’re also keeping up with a tradition started last year – Fizzy Fest. This celebration of all things bubbly, fun, and, yes, fizzy will be a great time for everyone. Our resident experts will focus on the science of spray the function of foam, and much more, all day July 15-16.

On July 30, ECHO is excited to welcome Vermont Comic Creators and Vermont Comic Con for a day of art and collaboration. Meet area artists and join in workshops to learn different comic styles, then visit the summer exhibit “Run! Jump! Fly! Adventures in Action” to become part of the story! Free with admission.

In addition to all the summer fun, ECHO is always buzzing with animal feedings, demonstrations, and hands-on encounters with its more than 100 interactive exhibits. More than 70 species of animals call ECHO home – come meet them today.

ECHO is open daily from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. See echovt.org for details.
