World Smile Day is celebrated each year on October 2nd. A great psychology lesson for World Smile Day is to write a letter to a person with the goal of bringing a smile to his / her day. As an introduction to the lesson, show your class the following video clip.
“Validation” (16:24) is positive, funny, and shows how simple compliments can brighten a person’s day. Why not give it a try!
After watching the video, have each student select one person who makes him / her smile. The student will then spend the remainder of the period writing a letter to the person as part of a Write it Forward project. You may be amazed at the feedback you will receive.
When the students complete the letter, have them address the letters, complete the feedback sheet, and give the letter to you to send out.
Hopefully your students enjoy the activity and are successful in bringing a smile to another’s day!
And remember…..”Teachers are GREAT (tutors)!“
