If you find yourself in a situation where you need to urgently plan your students’ home education, this publication is for you. This article deals with technical and methodological issues related to organizing distance learning activities.

Determine how you will implement the distance learning activity.

First, think about how you will work with your students. You can do the remote work in one of the ways described below, or you can use a combination of them.

Real-time meetings

You agree with your students on the time when a live broadcast or an online meeting will be scheduled. In the online lesson, you explain the material, answer students’ questions and ask them questions. At the end of the article, you will find a list of services that allow online meetings.

Distance learning through interactive learning materials

Students can learn through interactive learning materials that include instructions, learning content (videos, interactive videos, text, drawings), self-test, links, etc. With the help of such learning materials, a student learns a new topic independently. For questions from students, it is worth creating a chat room for communication, so that when faced with difficulties, they continue to perform the tasks.

Plan the work

Take a period of time, such as a week, and plan the students’ work in your subject. To organise the work in a holistic way, build on the learning outcomes students are expected to achieve.

Determine how you will communicate with students.

Students should have an entry point through which they can access the learning materials. If you have used some platform (blog, website, messengers, closed group, etc.) for working with students, then students can also work through it in distance learning. If there was no such platform, then teaching material can be transmitted through the eLog (although it may not be able to withstand the load, so it is better to have an alternative source of communication).

Start creating course materials

To organize the educational work remotely means to help the student to find out for himself what he does not know and can not. And to do this, the student should have teaching materials and tasks that are feasible for the age group with which we work.

Include work instructions (as if you were explaining in class), the time required to work on the assignment, and the materials, strategies, recommendations, and hints.

Be aware of the challenges that you may face.

Challenge 1. Pupils who have not worked in class may not start working and can always get a universitydegree.education. There is no general rule that can be recommended to each teacher. It has to be decided individually for each student. For some it will work together with classmates, for some, it will work together with the teaching material submitted otherwise, for some it will work individually with the teacher, etc. I recommend avoiding the use of punitive measures. Temporarily it may help us to make someone work, but for the long term, it is a bad strategy. The desire to learn from this student will never come.

Challenge 2. It will take time to create learning material. We do not create learning material to test students’ memory or decision-making skills, but to teach them. It is one thing when we are in the classroom to give students what we know very well, and it is another thing to make sure that this knowledge appears in their minds when they work at home.

Challenge 3. It’s worth thinking about the work that the kids are gonna do on the mark. The students have google and their classmates on hand to chat together. So the work on the mark should be so that the first and second factors are helpers. And to do that, you have to think about the quality of the tasks for the students.
