  • I am a Special Education Teacher in Scituate, MA available for tutoring elementary school students during the school year. I currently teacher grades K-2 but have tutored and worked with students through grade 6. I specialize in students with language based learning challenges and have a particular passion for instilling a love of learning in students. My firm belief is that students can learn anything if they are motivated, regardless of a "label" or their grades. This means that I will try anything to motivate your student to love something that challenges them. That might mean reading Captain Underpants books to teach a 3rd grader how to comprehend what they read, it might mean exploring Microsoft Excel to teach a 5th grader the benefits of math. I integrate technology whenever possible, because I believe that it is the direction that education is going and it is a great motivation for learning. I firmly believe that before a student can learn material, they must learn tools and strategies that will help them access all material. I do not believe in rote memorization except in very specific cases and would rather spend an hour session working on fully understanding how to solve one long division problem than complete 30 problems by just "doing what the book says" or "following the steps".
