I love teaching and many of the most important people in my life are teachers.
* My Dad is a retired elementary school principal.
* My Mom is a retired reading specialist and kindergarten teacher.
* My wife is a Chemistry teacher.
* My father-in-law is a retired Chemistry teacher.
* My brother is a high school Athletic Director.
This is a revision of one of 1st blogs. Since then we have figured out tags, keywords, SEO, and importing videos. So we hope you enjoyed this new and improved post of a story / poem / video that every teacher should know and share.
Be proud to be a teacher!

I received ‘What Teachers Make,” by Taylor Mali, from a teacher in Quincy, Massachusetts. It is awesome and highlights the special gifts that teachers have motivating students to achieve and reach their potential.
“WHAT TEACHERS MAKE”
The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life. One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued, “What’s a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?” He reminded the other dinner guests what they say about teachers: “Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.” To stress his point he said to another guest, “You’re a teacher, Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?”
Bonnie, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, “You want to know what I make?”
(She paused for a second, then began…) “Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could. I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor. I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents can’t make them sit for 5 without an I Pod, Game Cube or movie rental.
“You want to know what I make?” (She paused again and looked at each and every person at the table.) ”I make kids wonder. I make them question. I make them apologize and mean it. I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions. I teach them to write and then I make them write.
“Keyboarding isn’t everything. I make them read, read, read. I make them show all their work in math. They use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator.
“I make my students from other countries learn everything they need to know in English while preserving their unique cultural identity. I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe. I make my students stand, placing their hand over their heart to say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, One Nation Under God, because we
live in the United States of America.
“Finally, I make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work hard, and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life.” (Bonnie paused one last time and then continued.) “Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money isn’t everything, I can hold my head up high and pay no attention
because they are ignorant… You want to know what I make? I MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
“What do you make Mr. CEO?” His jaw dropped, he went silent.
What a great story! Every teacher should read it and share it with others in the profession.
With 15 years in the classroom, I understand that the teaching profession is a vocation. It is a profession that attracts so many talented and dedicated individuals, and like so many teachers know, it is not what we make financially that matters, but the difference we can make in the lives of our students.
However……earning money is critical to providing for ourselves and our families. Teachers often need to earn extra money working second jobs. That is why I created My Town Tutors, a website that helps teachers who tutor earn extra income doing what they do best, teaching and making a difference in lives of students.
My Town Tutors believes “teachers are great tutors,” that is why we ONLY lists teachers who tutor.
My Town Tutors has been tested in towns south of Boston in the Spring of 2010. The response has been great. There are already close to 100 tutors and we are ready to launch nationally!
We would love for you to visit the website and give us feedback on My Town Tutors.
To celebrate our launch, we are offering a special limited promotion. Teachers can register for one full year for ONLY $5. Use promo code – teacher. Teachers keep 100% of their tutoring fees.
My Town Tutors believes in teachers and knows that “Teachers are great tutors!” If my child needs tutoring, I want a person who understands the whole child, not just the content area. I want a teacher and I believe parents need a better, more appropriate alternative to the huge tutoring franchises which charge an arm and a leg.
Thanks for reading! I would love to hear your feedback.

The email I received closed with the following:
“THIS IS WORTH SENDING TO EVERY TEACHER YOU KNOW. Even all your personal teachers like mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and your spiritual leaders/teachers – Pastor’s/Priests/ Clergy. Make a difference today and e-mail it to everyone on your mailing list, for that matter!”
